Ok guys, I need help here. I want the twins to start learning how to sit up, but we don't have Bumbo seats, booster seats or high chairs. We're going to need to get booster seats for feedings, because we don't have room for high chairs, but should we get Bumbo seats too? They're expensive ($40 each), but they look so neat. :-) What do you guys think I should do? Buy the booster seats and no Bumbos or get both or just Bumbos??? Heeeeelp!
Hello...Blog stalker here. We have a bumbo and both my kids loved it. You can purchase trays to go on the Bumbo so it is more like a booster seat. I know they say to not put the kids on the table, we did as long as we were standing right next to them. or set them right on the couch as we were sitting next to them. I would put little puffs or cheerios on the tray with no problem. Good luck...Bumbos are lots of fun, and they have a good resale if you choose to sell them later on!
ReplyDeleteCould you get used bumbos at a yard sale? You could also use a boppy pillow as a little bit of support behind them. Mostly I just worked with my kiddos, propping them up in a sitting position with their hands in between their legs, kinda like a tripod. They fall over a lot at first, but with practice, they start to catch on!

Hi Elana,
ReplyDeleteBumbo seats are apparently amazing. And you can get them off Craigslist for a fraction of the price. I have been stalking craigslist lately, and bumbo chairs come up all the time!
We had both for Lex but he almost never used the bumbo, he just didn't like it. We have a highchair that you just strap to a dinning room chair and it upgrades to a booster. I'll have to see if I can find a link on it for you.
ReplyDeleteI have a bumbo for Caiden that literally got used for about a month! She grew very quickly & her chubby thighs get stuck in it now. She also can arch herself right out of the seat so we have had to put it away. While it lasted it was awesome- but I would just keep in mind that they have a much more limited timeframe if you have a chubster or active baby that likes to squirm.
ReplyDeleteI do wish she lasted a little longer in it since feeding her does get a little tricky with the bouncy chair & she doesn't quite fit the high chair yet!

ReplyDeleteWe never used a bumbo, but I've heard they are great. Our daughter had lots of developmental delays and very weak core muscles (internationally adopted at age one). She was developmentally assessed at a five-month-old level when we adopted her. We did lots exercises assigned by her PT, including tummy time, lots of "sit-ups" (where she held onto our fingers while we helped her to pull up), even used a boppy by sitting her in the hole.
As for booster seats, for what it's worth, we love our Stokke tripp trapp chair. You can add the "baby seat" accessory to it so that babies as young as six months can use it. Our Tongginator is STILL using it at five-and-a-half, minus the baby seat accessory.
Stalking all the reccommendations! Don't mind me! (as I peak over your shoulder and evesdrop on the conversation!)
ReplyDeleteElana- I have a bumbo...I'll send it to you. Kira is done with it. It is only one, but it's free for your use. Just send it back to me some day..
ReplyDeleteEmail me with your address and I'll try to get it out to you over the next couple of days.
I'm no help because I still don't have kidlets but I hope you managed to make a decision that doesn't cost your pocket too much!

We used booster seats for our twins and they learned how to sit fairly quickly considering their global developmental delays. Enjoy each day with your twins and don't get too caught up in the "delays!" They will each choose their own pace.
ReplyDeleteI loved the bumbo for my niece. Check out craigslist, consignment stores, or eBay to save $$.
ReplyDeleteHope you got wonderful suggestions already!
ReplyDeleteAm a little useless in that department.
Good Luck!

so...i jumped right in and offered mine up..but i should say that Kira used it maybe a month...maybe 2 dozen times. IMO, not worth the $38 I spent on it. She is now too big for it (and is not even a heavy kid).
ReplyDeleteso if i were to choose again...i'd go with a booster seat/chair converting highchair because you will get so much more use out of it for a much longer time frame.
my offer still stands to send you my seat. if you want it..you know how to reach me.
No help on the bubmo. The twins are adorable! Just wanted to say thanks for the less than 10 line post for blogger bingo! And, Happy ICLW! :-)
