I'm sorry I haven't posted an update in a while, but Passover just sort of took over my entire month of April, and the semester isn't finished yet for school. I've missed so many classes - when I was sick, Passover, and then yesterday because my car battery died. (Seriously...not the best time for that to happen! But at least all it took was a jump and we were back in business.)
Anyway, half of my husband's immediate family stayed with us over Passover, and everyone had a great time. The twins went wild over "Auntie Beh" and "Uncle Joe" (aka "ABehBeh" and "AJoeJoe"). There was a lot of laughing and even some potty success! I bought the twins some cloth training pants, and hopefully they'll come in the mail soon. I just want to get them out of diapers already! Sure, they're young, but there's two of them and Tzipora. I'm getting sick of diapers. lol
I've discovered that Tzipora really isn't gaining weight - she's still at 10 1/2 lbs. I think maybe it's because she cut out an overnight feed and goes 10+ hours without crying or waking us up. She'd go even longer, but I have my alarm set for 7:45am so I can be on time to class and such. She just lays there and sucks on her fingers, so we have no idea that she's even awake. I'm going to be a lot more strict about waking her up at 5am for a feed and I'm not going to let her sit and nurse for an hour at a time during the day, because for the vast majority of that time she's basically sleep sucking and not getting any milk. I'm going to poke at her so she drinks quickly and I can get in more feeds during the day. Any expert breastfeeders out there with ideas on getting her to eat more and quickly? Cuz even though I might spend 4 hours per day with her on the breast, her weight is completely stagnant...
This blog contains Elana's musings about her struggle with infertility and her four miracle kiddos. Thanks for listening!

Checkups for Everyone
The baby had her 1 month checkup earlier this week, and I had my 6 week checkup today. The baby weighed 8lbs 15oz and measured 20.75" at her checkup. She gained a little over 2 lbs in just under 4 weeks! That's perfect!!! The pediatrician said that she looks great and is developing right on target.
As for me, my favorite midwife was working tonight (you know, the one who delivered the baby). I was SOOOOO happy, because she doesn't work every Thursday evening, so it's the luck of the draw to come in on her night. Anyways, she told me that everything was healed and looking great. I'm in tip-top condition...except for the fact that I might be anemic. She took a CBC, so we'll find out tomorrow if that's the reason I'm super tired and dizzy. I should also start taking my placenta pills, but especially if I'm anemic.
I have my first test of the semester next Monday, and I'm feeling pretty good that I'll do well on it. I got 100% on my first lab quiz last week, and hopefully I'll do that again on tomorrow's quiz. I just have to study really hard for it. It's on the heart, so I need to make sure I keep my atria and ventricles straight...and all of the little valves and such.
And now, for something funny. I was at Costco the other day, and in one of their main displays they were selling bathing suits. I was like "Bathing suits in this weather? What are they thinking?? We're going to have snow on the ground until September!" LOL Silly Costco.

Growing Baby!
We had to reschedule Tzipora's weight check appointment from yesterday because of the snow. Actually, I'm relieved we didn't have to go in at 9:30 in the morning (snow or not) because I try to use the morning to sleep as much as I can. Tzipora is actually a FANTASTIC sleeper and I generally feel well rested, but you can never get too much sleep. ;-)
Breastfeeding is going so well. I am in awe of my body, which fought against me so heartily after the birth of the twins and refused to produce enough milk for one baby (let alone two). This time around I don't even have to think about my milk supply because there's always enough for her, no matter what time of day. And it gives me such satisfaction to see milk dribbling out of the corners of her mouth or to hear her gulping down milk. Tzipora is a champion nurser, too, feeding just about every 2 hours during the day and going for nice, long stretches at night. I do wake her during the day to make sure she's not going too much past the 2 hour mark, because I want to make sure her longest stretches are at night. Her night feeds tend to be sporadic, meaning one night she might only do 3 hour stretches but the next she might go for 6 or 7 hours... There have even been some nights where I've woken up to go to the bathroom and she is still fast asleep! Kinda funny when your newborn can go for longer sleep stretches than you can... :-) I even asked my doula whether or not I should wake her if I get up before she does, and my doula said that as long as the baby is back up to her birth weight then I could let her sleep as long as she wants to (but not past 8 hours). The only problem is when she wants to do a cluster feed between 8pm and 1am. Sure, I don't mind it as much as I would a cluster feed between 1am and 6am, but when school starts up and I need to be up and about before 8am, I'm going to be super tired without my sleep between 10pm and 1am. Honestly, though, I have nothing to complain about. I get enough sleep, even if it's usually interrupted once or twice, and now that Tzipora knows that night = sleep, I'm generally getting restful sleep. (There's a HUGE difference between getting 2 hours in a row and getting 3 hours. It has to do with sleep cycles and REM sleep, but getting 1 or 2 hours of sleep and then being woken up is almost as if you hadn't slept at all.)
The proof is in the pudding, though, as they say... She's two weeks old today, and not only is she back up to her birth weight, but she's well above it!! Last week on Tuesday (so 9 days ago) she was 6 lbs exactly, down 7 ounces from birth but up from her lowest weight which was in the 5's. Today she's now 6 lbs 13 oz!! She gained 13 oz in 9 days. Woo hoo!!

Twin Stats
Ok, I have a few minutes to myself so I'm going to post the twins updated weights and lengths and percentiles!
Chana
weight: 19lbs 3oz (2 months ago 17lbs 14oz...a gain of 1lb 5oz)
height: 28 in (2 months ago 27 in...a gain of 1 in)
In percentiles for her age, this means...
weight: 60%ile (2 months ago 68%ile)
height: 68%ile (2 months ago 71%ile)
Dovid
weight: 17lbs 5oz (2 months ago 16lbs 5oz...a gain of 1lb)
height: 27 in (2 months ago 26.5 in...a gain of .5 in)
In percentiles for his age, this means...
weight: 8%ile (2 months ago 13%ile)
height: 11%ile (2 months ago 29%ile)
So we see that both kiddos dropped in their percentiles a bit, but it's still ok. They're growing and that's what matters. Dovid is still my little man, emphasis on the little. :-) The doctor's not worried about his growth, so I'm not. Now if only I could get them to swallow the food they put in their mouth and chew, I'd be all set!

Neurology Appointment
The twins had their follow up with the Neurologist today. The doctor says that they are developmentally perfect for their true age (not corrected age), which it totally awesome!!!! They also got their height and weight taken, so here are the new numbers.
Chana
weight: 17lbs 14oz (last month 16lb 10.9oz...a gain of 1lb 3.1oz)
height: 27 in (last month 26 in...a gain of 1 in)
In percentiles for her age, this means...
weight: 68%ile (last month 57%ile)
height: 71%ile (last month 50%ile)
Dovid
weight: 16lbs 5oz (last month 15lbs 1.9oz...a gain of 1lb 3.1oz)
height: 26.5 in (last month 25.5 in...a gain of 1 in)
In percentiles for his age, this means...
weight: 13%ile (last month 11%ile)
height: 29%ile (last month 19%ile)
Yay twinners!!! They both gained the exact same amount of height and weight. How awesome is that? And they are zooming up in percentiles. Can you believe that MY daughter is in the 71st percentile for height??? And she was a preemie!! Good golly... And Dovid is catching up, too...29th percentile for height! I'm just so proud of their development. :-)

Pediatrician
The twins had their 6 month checkup today! Here's how we're doing for height and weight:
Chana
weight: 16 lb 10.9 oz (last month she was 15 lbs 1.3 oz...a gain of 1 lb 9.6 oz)
height: 26 in (last month 25 in...a gain of 1 in)
head circumference: 41.5 cm
In percentiles for her age, this means...
weight: 66%ile (last month 57%ile)
height: 62%ile (last month 50%ile)
hc: 16.6%ile
Dovid
weight: 15 lb 1.9 oz (last month 13 lbs 15.6 oz...a gain of 1 lb 2.3 oz)
height: 25.5 in (last month 24.75 in...a gain of .75 in)
head circumference: 42.5 cm
In percentiles for his age, this means...
weight: 12%ile (last month 11%ile)
height: 21%ile (last month 19%ile)
hc: 12.3%ile
Now we can see that the twins are growing! Chana is just gaining so much weight...and Dovid is just sorta gaining. lol He's just a little guy and plans to stay that way. It's also funny that Dovid has a bigger head, but he's in a lower percentile... In any case, it's all 100% on target and the doctors are really happy. They also say we can start solids, although the doctor we saw today doesn't know anything about Baby-Led Weaning and was warning me about choking and wasn't recommending it until 8 months. But I say she has no idea what she's talking about and plan to start it anyway...as long as Molly says it's ok! :-D

Getting Bigger...
The twins had a weight and length check today, so here is where we are. (Remember that they're technically 5 months old, but only 4 months corrected age.)
Chana
height: 25 in (50th percentile for 5 mo, 78%ile for 4 mo)
weight: 15 lbs 1.3 oz (57%ile for 5 mo, 80%ile for 4 mo)
Dovid
height: 24.75 in (19%ile for 5 mo, 49%ile for 4 mo)
weight: 13 lbs 15.6 oz (11%ile for 5 mo, 35%ile for 4 mo)
Chana is just so big, the doctor even said jokingly "Are you sure she was a preemie?" Dovid's just my little man, emphasis on little. hehe But, they both gained approximately a pound and a half in the last month and 3/4 of an inch. Dovid's still not gaining as much as his sister is and he is quite small, so he'll be staying on the preemie formula with extra scoops of powder. Chana is adding Zantac to her diet, because she's spitting up quite a bit. (Funny how a kid that spits up half of what she eats is gaining weight like a college student drinking beer and eating pizza.) She's also going to be on Erythromycin eye ointment to see if we can clear up her "eye goop." I noticed that it went away for almost 2 weeks after she was on IV antibiotics at the hospital, so we're giving this a try and hope that it will go away for good!

Nothing Doing
Sorry for the lack of posting, but there really hasn't been anything going on here. The twins had their 3 month weigh-in at the doctor, and they're both 10lbs 12oz!
The investment guy at my workplace wants me to come and be his administrative assistant, but I'm not sure if they're going to pay me enough to make it worthwhile. I'm still waiting to hear back from HR about that. In the mean time, I don't even have a babysitter if I do decide to go back! (Except my mother-in-law, but she's only here until July.)
That's really all for now. The twins are doing well, and we're soooo happy to have my mother-in-law helping out for a few weeks. She is a saint!!!

Stream of Consciousness
The twins had another weigh-in today...Chana is up to 6lbs 15oz and Dovid is 6lbs 10oz. Wow! Chana gained 10oz in 5 days and Dovid gained 8oz in 5 days. They had both just eaten, but really that "just eaten" label applies to them nearly 24 hours a day. lol
I'm sitting here with Dovid nestled in my lap. Thank goodness I wear skirts...I have his head on one thigh and his legs on the other, and the skirt keeps him from falling. :-) I'm soooo creative. Otherwise I would have to type this with one hand and it would take all day. He seems to be comfortable...he actually looks to be asleep. heh
My mom and I are going grocery shopping imminently...with the twins. It should be interesting! One of us will push the cart and the other will push the stroller. We don't have slings yet, and who *really* wants to be wearing a baby while walking all over the supermarket? Not me!
One of my husband's coworkers made us this gorgeous cross-stitch with twin bears and the twins names & birth date on it. I'll have to take a photo and post it here...it's absolutely gorgeous.
The last two days of Pesach are tomorrow and Thursday, so I won't be posting until at least Friday...if not Sunday. I am soooo glad it's almost over!

Minivan
We discovered that my teeny Ford Focus just does not fit two infant carseats...unless you want to sit so close to the dashboard that you could lick it without bending over. So, we need to trade it in and get a minivan. I researched online and have discovered that the three safest minivans are the Kia Sedona, Hyundai Entourage and the Honda Odyssey. After checking prices and features, I've narrowed it down to the Sedona and the Entourage. We've already test-driven the Entourage and I'll be test-driving the Sedona on Sunday. Is anyone out there in blogland familiar with either of these two minivans? Want to give an opinion?
The twins are doing well. They feed every 2-4 hours, but since my family is so awesome, I don't have to take a night shift. :-) I am nursing, so if I skip all the night shifts it means I have to pump after the twins' morning feeding...it's a VERY small price to pay for getting decent sleep. As of their last weight check, they're both just about 5 1/2 pounds, so at least we know they're gaining weight appropriately! They still sleep most of the time, thank G-d, but I think they're starting to be more alert during the daytime, so I'm going to start leaving them out of their cribs. It should be interesting!
