Oy Vey

The twins are doing better...both had solid food and kept it down, so that's good. Let's just hope tomorrow is more of the same. :-) Unfortunately now Shmuel is sick. :-( Poor guy has what the twins had, but hopefully he'll recover as quickly as Chana did. *sigh* Well, at least he can talk so it should be easier to take care of him than the twins, right? :-) We just have to make sure neither Ziva nor I get sick. Seriously, I'll be so upset...there's no way I'm going to miss class cuz I'm sick. I will seriously leave the classroom every 5 mins to puke if I have to. lol But, hopefully it won't come to that... Geesh!

What on Earth

So Dovid is still sick. Still gakking up his meals, and I just don't know what to do. He won't keep down formula, but he's not getting *any* calories from pedialyte. And here's the kicker...Chana just threw up her dinner. Someone who shall remain nameless decided to then give her a formula bottle, which she promptly threw up and who I promptly yelled at. :-) We are totally stumped as to why they are suddenly sick when none of the three adults are. We don't even have the teensiest bit of nausea and here are both kids puking up their meals. And I don't know how to fix it!! We tried the pedialyte by itself, but as soon as we started mixing it with formula, Dovid would throw it up several hours later. GAAAAAHHHH!!! Please help!

Liquid Vitamins

I’m considering changing my multivitamin and came across something I’d never even thought about. Apparently they have liquid vitamins for adults. I asked myself, why on earth would an adult take a liquid vitamin? Wouldn’t it taste gross? Aren’t pills better? Apparently not… They do make liquid vitamins that taste good and your body actually absorbs it up to 700% better than pills. I found a vitamin that basically has everything my body needs (vitamins and minerals like Co-Q10, Whole Grape Extract, Bioflavinoids, Phytonutrients, Antioxidents, Fatty Acids, etc.) It’s called TruWell’s LMV Gold. I learned that the average American diet, laden with highly processed, refined foods, is deficient in many vital nutrients, and that these deficiencies may lead to certain harmful conditions. That’s scary stuff, especially since my diet is absolutely horrific. (Sugar Free Reeses’s PB Cups, anyone?) So taking a multivitamin that actually delivers nutrients into my body is SO important. I’m glad I found something so complete and easy to take!

Wow

I have been a terrible blogger lately. No posts in a week!! Geesh. Well, let me get you all up to speed...

We went to Baltimore and had a great time at the wedding. The flight down and back were both pretty smooth, for the most part. Not too much for me to freak out about and I got to watch some TV! :-)

While we were there, we had a great time with my sister, brother-in-law, his brother, and my sister & brother-in-law's foster son. Unfortunately there was a slight mishap with food...meaning that my au pair ate something and got food poisoning. Ooooopsie! So she was sick as a dog for Friday afternoon and evening and Saturday morning. Thank G-d she is doing fine now and recovered pretty well. On Saturday afternoon, Dovid started vomited his lunch and became clingy, since that was his only stomach upset, we didn't really think about it...until today. We left on Sunday, and I immediately started my homework for the next day! :-)

Yesterday I went to class, no biggie for me, but poor Ziva (our au pair) was stuck with a clingy Dovid. She last fed/changed him around 4:30pm, and then my hubby tried to feed him later around 7pm. He vomited the egg that he had eaten, and then vomited the formula Shmuel gave him. Shmuel got his outfit changed, but didn't change his diaper. He put Dovid in his crib and went to help Chana with something. When he got back to Dovid, Dovid was already asleep. He figured Dovid would wake up for a change and maybe to eat something, but he didn't until the morning. The twins got up to eat before 6am, and when Shmuel changed Dovid his diaper was wet, but not soaked as he would have expected it to be. Plus the fact that Dovid was being overly sleepy on the changing table. Shmuel then fed Dovid 3 ounces of formula, which was promptly vomited. Ooops. Now he's worried about dehydration...crap. I get up around 7:30am and see Shmuel's frantic note about Dovid. I then see Dovid wake up, get to a sitting position and then promptly fall over...not natural. Crap again. So I go upstairs to wake Ziva so she can take care of Dovid and I can get to school. I left and called the pediatrician's office for advice. They said to give him Pedialyte (only 1-2 tsp every 15-20 mins) to see if he could keep that down and to then come in later when we had a chance. I called a friend of mine who brought some Powerade over to Ziva to give to Dovid, which we were instructed by the pediatrician to dilute since it's not Pedialyte. :-) Ziva then dutifully followed the instructions, except for one thing...she mistook a tablespoon for a teaspoon and ended up giving Dovid 3-6 times what he was supposed to be getting. Heh oops! Luckily Dovid kept it all down anyway. We went to the pediatrician during my break between classes, and unfortunately had to wait so long that poor Ziva had to walk the twins home... Luckily she is a really fast walker and got home in 20 mins. WOW! That was like a 2 mile walk, too. Geez, like superwoman! Anyhoo, I went to class and then came home to give Ziva a break. I told her to go take a well-deserved nap for as long as she needed, and I would take care of the twins. Chana then took a nap, and Dovid fell asleep in my arms. Very sweet. :-) When they woke up, I wanted to feed Chana something, so I sat both of them in their booster seats. I gave Chana some kiwi and brought a bottle to Dovid. Dovid was having none of that! He wanted REAL FOOD RIGHT NOW. heh So I made him some toast. He gobbled up a few small pieces, and I gave the rest to Chana. He kept that down along with an ounce or so of formula. Later on Shmuel gave him another 2.5 ounces of formula, which he's kept down as well. He's also acting more like himself; playing and smiling.

So far so good! Maybe tomorrow he'll get some banana and some more toast. Any ideas on good foods while recovering from a stomach bug?

New Book

I treated myself to buying a new book. And I think I'm treating Ziva too...she may have to fight me to read it. :-) Can you guess what it is? It's the book MASH, which the movie and TV show were based off of. I am *SO* excited to read it!!!!!! And I think Ziva is just about as excited as I am, if that's possible. Poor Shmuel is so left out lately. Poor guy... Maybe I'll ask him if he wants to watch The Biggest Loser and M*A*S*H with us tonight. :-) Ahhh, family bonding.

In other news, I had my first day of school today!!! And it was actually pretty neat. I never took any math or science in college, so it was new and totally fun. Both professors let us out way early, which is always a treat. My chemistry professor is a bit nutty, which reminded me of my dad...a bittersweet moment. When I told him I wouldn't be in class on Thursday due to my trip out of town, he told me that he'd email me with what we covered and what I needed to do for homework. He then warned me that we would be covering significant figures, which some people have trouble with. I smiled at him and said that my dad had taught chemistry for 25 years, so I wasn't worried about significant figures. :-) He said that was good, but that unfortunately his science genes didn't rub off on his own kids so I'm lucky in that way. Pshaw...significant figures! My dad would be horrified if I even had to think twice about that topic. hehehe Mind you, I don't remember exactly what they are at the moment, but I'm sure once I read the topic it will come flying back to me. :-D I also started reading the homework we got assigned today, and I learned a few things. #1 Matter is anything that has mass and occupies space...ahhh that brings back memories of my dad, too. #2 Mass is NOT the same as weight! Mass always stays the same and is a measure of how much matter something has. Weight changes based on the gravitational force, so I weigh more on earth than I would on the moon. Maybe I should move to the moon... Anyways, so far so good seeing as I just pulled that out of my head.

Statistics was very short, and the professor basically just went over the syllabus. She didn't even assign us any homework because the publisher had sent her the wrong edition of the book and most of the class haven't even bought their books yet. Score! But she's going to email me what I'm going to miss on Thursday along with the requisite homework. She said that the first few chapters aren't too difficult, so I should be able to get all the info I need from reading the book. Nooo problem. I'm good at algebraic math, just don't ask me about anything calculus based.

Well, I'd better get started packing for our trip. EEEEEK! My best friend Melanie is trying to convince me that flying is safer than driving, and it is, but that's not going to stop me from having a panic attack... :-)

Whoops

I haven't posted in a week! My bad. I've just been so busy!! Not too much to report. We're going to Baltimore on Wednesday...ack! So not looking forward to being on an airplane again. It's been nearly two years since my last plane ride, and I wish I would never have to fly again. *grumble* The twins aren't doing anything new this week...just the same stuff. Standing while holding onto things, cruising, Chana's teeth, etc.

I'll update during my trip, if I can find the time!

New Teeth!

Chana is getting 4 more teeth! (All on the upper jaw) Dovid still has none, but Chana is working on these. I saw them the other day and it's just so cute. :-)

Now I bet you're all wondering how our new au pair is doing. Well let me tell you... Ziva is fantastic. She is so good with the kids, and she seems to actually enjoy working. :-) It is such a 180 from what was going on before. She's attentive to them, even while she's relaxing. She has fun with me...it's almost like living with your best friend. Seriously, it's like heaven. :-)

Whoops

Sorry I haven't posted in a few days. Let's update:

New Au Pair:

Awesome, fantastic, sweet, amazing, etc. Yeah, she's all that AND she watched M*A*S*H with me. Life just doesn't get any better. She is good with the kids; even Chana likes her. :-) She's into medical stuff, so I could tell her about my fistula and the birth and she was eating it all up. She likes Monty Python, so she gets my Monty Python references! She spends her time in the living room rather than in her own room, so we actually get to interact together. I enjoy her so much that I spend MORE time with the twins...because I want to help her and I want to be with her, and I get the sense that she enjoys being with me. It's win-win. Her name is Ziva, so you'll hear me talk about her I'm sure.

Twins:

Dovid can now say "mama" although I don't know if he actually knows what he's saying. But he goes "mamamamama" or "babababa". I'm just glad he's finally using consonants! Chana babbles, but she doesn't do consonants in a row like Dovid does; she just makes silly sounds. They both had a routine checkup with the eye doctor and both passed with flying colors. The eye doc said to wash Chana's clogged tear duct eye with diluted baby shampoo and let her rub it, because any massage it gets can help to clear it. She encouraged us to massage it as well.

Us:

The whole family went to spend the weekend with our friend Bill and his boys. We all had a great time and ate very well (i.e. raspberry babka, chocolate babka, Crembos, tongue...mmmmm). The only issue was the twins sleeping in our room...they kept us awake a lot more than they do at home. Yeah, now I'm really glad we didn't do co-sleeping or we'd never get any sleep. Every time they'd wake up and whimper, we'd have to get out of bed and feed, change and/or soothe them. But at home, we don't hear the whimpers, only the sincere cries. MUCH better situation.
