Happy 40th Birthday Sesame Street!

I grew up on Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood. I love Sesame Street and still do! I also loved watching Shalom Sesame, the Jewish American version. I enjoyed all of the characters--Ernie was always my favorite--and it's become a staple of children's television worldwide. My personal favorite Sesame Street of all time is actually a movie called "Don't Eat the Pictures" which was made in the early 80's.

Today I watched a clip from the show that I had never seen before. Well, that might not be true...the clip aired on Thanksgiving Day in 1983, when I was about 3 1/2 months old. So it is possible that I watched it with my sister, but I definitely don't remember. In either case, this episode is called "Farewell, Mr. Hooper," and during this episode Mr. Hooper's death is explained to Big Bird. I watched a clip from this episode for the first time today thanks to one of my bloggy friends. It is done so brilliantly and so emotionally, and I have to share it with you. Make sure to keep some tissues nearby, because I was in tears and my hubby needed to bring me a few to mop up my face and blow my nose. Seriously, I'm still tearing up just thinking about it. Enjoy!

  2. I don't actually remember this clip, but I do remember when Mr Hooper died (showing my age).

I was an avid Sesame Street fan. Grover was my favourite.

I'm hoping the boys like it to, but it's just not the same anymore.

  3. Same as Jules - I don't remember this clip, but I do remember Mr. Hooper dying. I guess I was about 5 at the time. I still love Sesame Street.

  4. Visiting from Mel's blog...
Thank you for sharing this clip. I was also too young to view its original airing, but it is a very moving piece of such an amazing show... I still love to watch with my nephew :)

  6. Sesame Street is so great. I still love it just as much as an adult as I did when I was a kid.

I hope my kiddos love it as well!

  7. Sesame Street was on when I was a kid, but I think I watched more of it the second time around; when my children were little. It was much more interesting (to me) than Barney, but the purple dinosaur was a favourite of my son. Both programs were gently educational, so I didn't mind too much.
Good luck with the twins' eating. As long as they are healthy, you can afford to take your time with the chewing. They will get around to it.
