MckLinky Blog Hop
This week's blog hop theme is "Time to Laugh," so I'm posting one of my favorite cartoons. I posted this last summer when Michael Phelps won all of those medals during the Olympics, but it still makes me giggle when I see it. :-) Enjoy!

MckLinky Blog Hop
This week's blog hop is "favorite recipe" again. It was so popular the last time around that they decided to do it again! This time I'm giving my husband's recipe for cholent. This recipe is easy, spicy and very yummy!
1/2 cup pinto beans
1/2 cup black beans (or red beans)
2/3 cup barley
2/3 cup brown rice
1 1/2 pounds flanken beef, cubed
1 large or 2 medium onions; chopped, sliced or whole
4 large or 5 medium red potatoes, cut into halves or quarters
3 Tbsp olive oil
3 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
1 tsp chili powder and/or cayenne pepper
2 cloves garlic, chopped
Boil beans for two minutes, cover and let sit for one hour. (Or you can let the beans soak overnight.) Drain water. Add the rest of the ingredients to the crockpot (or 5-6 quart stock pot). Add water to just cover all of the ingredients. Cook on low heat for approx 24 hours. Enjoy!

MckLinky Blog Hop
This week's blog hop theme is "your favorite photo(s)". I've already posted some of my ultimate faves, but I'll find a good one for you...
Here's a picture of Shmuel singing "Aishes Chayil" to me at our wedding. "Aishes Chayil" is a song that most men sing to their wives on Friday nights, and many sing it at the wedding reception too. The bandleader at the wedding said that it was the sweetest rendition of the song he had ever heard.

MckLinky Blog Hop
This week's blog hop theme is "encouragement". People are posting their favorite quotes, spiritual passages, life lessons, sayings, photos and encouraging thoughts. I am going to post a photo along with my encouragement.

This is a picture of my twins almost exactly a year ago. My encouragement is to all of the infertile couples who are reading my blog. Miracles do happen, and my twins are proof of that in so many ways. It can happen for you too! Even if they tell you that "one of your embryos doesn't have much hope, but we'll transfer it anyway", stay positive. My 5 cell grade C embryo is sitting next to me, sucking on her pacifier. There are still many souls up in heaven just waiting for their chance to come spend some time down here on earth. And if you're someone who has had a miscarriage (or several) or a stillbirth, know that these souls only had a very short time to spend, but they were sent down just for you. Miscarriages do serve a purpose, even if it doesn't seem like it. My sister, my husband, my twins (and possibly I) wouldn't be here right now if it weren't for miscarriages. Think about how many people walking this earth might not be alive today if their mother hadn't had a miscarriage (or several)...could even be you!
This post is for the following women to have the zechus for zara chaya v'kayama: Rivka Tsivia bas Kayla Leah, Malka Avira bas Chaya T'sherniya, and Rizel bas Elka. May I hear very good news from all three women before the end of 2009, and may all the infertile couples in the world be able to share similar news as well.

MckLinky Blog Hop
This week's Blog Hop theme is "Favorite Kid Photo". Since I already post so many photos of my kids, I figured I would post one of my hubby as a kid (even though he'd probably kill me if he ever found out I posted a cute kid picture of him on the internet). Well, I just have to take that risk. Here he is! I'm not quite sure how old he is in the picture...maybe 6 or 7? (Beh, if you know, please leave a comment with his age.) Anyhoo, I have a lot more child pictures of my hubby if you want to see them. :-D

MckLinky Blog Hop
This week's Blog Hop theme is your favorite recipe or dish. I have two favorites, so here they are. The first is my recipe for the best macaroni & cheese EVER.
2 cups (8 oz) uncooked elbow macaroni
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1 1/2 cup milk
1 1/2 cup (16 oz) sour cream
1/2 tbsp. pepper (optional)
1 bar (10 oz) mild cheddar cheese, grated
Preheat oven to 350. Cook macaroni in boiling, salted water according to package directions (use shortest cooking time). Drain and rinse with cold water. Pour into a 3-quart casserole. In a saucepan, melt butter and stir in flour. Gradually stir in milk and sour cream. Add pepper. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until sauce bubbles and thickens. Reserve 1 cup grated cheese for the top of the casserole. Toss macaroni with remaining cheese. Pour sauce over macaroni and mix thoroughly. Sprinkle with reserved cheese. Bake for 1 hour or until bubbly and brown. Serves 6.
The second is for my favorite type of chicken, which has practically no calories.
Chicken Kind-A-Cacciatore (Diet Chicken)
2 boneless chicken breasts, split (4 pieces)
1 can (15 or 16 oz) Italian-style stewed tomatoes
salt and pepper
various vegetables: celery, scallions, mushrooms, green pepper, garlic, etc.
Melt margarine, use cooking spray or a Teflon pan. "White" chicken in the pan. Add stewed tomatoes, salt and pepper. Add whatever is in your refrigerator - cut up celery, scallions, mushrooms, green pepper, garlic - any, all or none. Cover and simmer for 1 hour. Serves 2-4. This chicken tastes really good, is low in calories and has almost no fat.
ENJOY!!

MckLinky Blog Hop
This week's MckLinky Blog Hop theme is "three things you didn't know about me/us." The photographer who did our wedding decided to retire, and we bought ALL of our wedding photos on CD a few days ago, so I'm going to make this "three things" all about our wedding (Aug 27, 2006).
1) My husband has 3 brothers and 1 sister. They are all in this picture from the wedding, and I think Dovid looks like his Uncle Avram. From left to right, there's Avram (the oldest), Rebecca (the second oldest), Eliah (the middle child), Me, Shmuel (the youngest), Mom-in-law, and Joe (the second youngest and best man)

2) I had planned to only have a matron-of-honor and one bridesmaid at the wedding, because my sister-in-law wasn't sure she wanted to be "in the spotlight". But she didn't realize that without her it would only be my sister and my friend Melanie. She didn't walk down the aisle, but we wanted her in the "bridesmaid" picture nonetheless. From left to right, there's Rebecca (my sister-in-law), Shira (my sister & matron-of-honor), Me, Shmuel and Melanie (my best friend & bridesmaid)

3) In the Orthodox Jewish tradition, the bride and groom are not supposed to see each other for one full week before the wedding. This was SOOO difficult for us, as would be for any engaged couple. The first time we got to see each other was at the bedeken, where he put the veil over my face and gave me a bracha. Here are a few pictures from the bedeken, where you can see just how happy we were to see each other. Of all of the pictures from the wedding, these are my absolute favorites!
This is Shmuel's first glimpse of me in a week. He looks VERY happy. (And also like he's about to faint...)

The Rabbi is holding Shmuel up in this picture...lol Once again, Shmuel looks happier than I've ever seen him since.

Now he really looks like he's going to faint, but he's still beaming.

Oooh! Now you can see how happy I am to see Shmuel!

Shmuel is now putting the veil down. You can see how delicately he's doing it.

Looks like the Rabbi (on the right with the long beard) and our friend Moshe (next to the Rabbi) are laughing at Shmuel at how gingerly he's trying to put the veil over my face.

Yay! He did it!

This is Shmuel giving me a bracha. This is my ultimate favorite picture.

MckLinky Blog Hop
I just found this and think it sounds like fun. This week the theme is "A Favorite Photograph". My favorite photos are the first ones taken of the twins. (Yes, I'm cheating and doing two photos because I have two kids.) lol Because of the emergency C-Section and the twins being in the NICU, I didn't get to see them in person for several hours...almost 12, I think. So, my hubby had them take pictures of the twins for me to see instead. That's why they're my favorite. :-) See how much they've grown!
